Thanking All Physicians this National Doctors’ Day

National Doctors’ Day was first celebrated on March 30th, 1933 when Eudora Brown Almond wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, a Georgia physician, wanted to create a day to recognize and honor doctors.

The holiday remained “unofficial” for the next 58 years. On October 30th, 1990, President George Bush signed S.J. RES. #366 (Public Law 101-473) designating March 30th as “National Doctors’ Day”.

Everyday physicians across the world commit and dedicate their lives to caring for the well-being of others. In fact, in the past year alone 84.3% of adults and 93.6% of children in the U.S. have had contact with a healthcare professional according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Physicians are resilient, compassionate, comforting, caring, and do everything in their power to keep us healthy. If we think about it, being a physician isn’t an easy job. Physicians diagnose and treat injuries and illnesses. Additionally, they examine and counsel patients (preventive care), take medical histories, prescribe medications, order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests etc. On top of this, they tend to work under pressure and approximately 60+ hours per week (well over the number of hours worked by the average American).

So today and every day, we want all 950K+ physicians in the U.S. to know that we value, appreciate and thank you for all that you do!

Today we celebrate National Doctors’ Day by spotlighting YOU as our everyday heroes.
